Bloggin' out. Will return for more iGEM.
It’s all kind of surreal, the fact that I’m leaving iGEM and starting college. It’s an exciting time in my life. I’ll do my best to balance school, iGEM and fun. I’m going to miss everyone in the Lim lab. Look out for when I come back!

Morning Meeting
Transcibed by yours truly for you unknown and anonymous readers.
iGEM team + Wendell. Team Dicty has about 39 good AB-BC-CD constructs transformed into Dicty and ready/undergoing scrutiny under the microscopes (and eyes). They are still moving 100+ other constructs along our principle pipeline for the creation of parts and constructs.
They are freezing stocks of cell lines with mutations in...
Label your food. Or else Aynur will eat it!!!
:) Just kidding. I love Aynur. It was pretty funny how she ate David’s sandwich.
I am behinddd! We grew cultures overnight yesterday hoping to do minipreps and digests today, but we forgot to add antibiotics to our media. This sucks. How many times does it take for me to forget to add the stuff before I remember to? Oh boy. Today was a mix of picking/growing new colonies and...
Crayon drinks
Peasant Pies sells interesting drinks. Crayon drinks. Cool, eh?
Right now, I’m just sitting in the cave waiting for Eric and Katja to do 26 minipreps for 13 successful transformations. We re-did transformations for 8 constructs, but they still need incubation/growing time on CARB or KAN plates. We will do minipreps for those 8 tomorrow.
In other news, it’s iGEM week 3. I met my...

Back row
Today, I caught the 9:40 AM shuttle (lateeee). To my surprise, I was the first one at BH212.
Back row. The adults stole the front seats.
Allen and I won the ideas challenge. We get a prize. I’ll take a pic when I get it!
We split up into teams to brainstorm our crazy and wacko ideas. Oliver, Delquin, Saber, Jacinto, Alex and Ethan, you guys are pretty cool. Black Team!!
It's a good thing that we ran out of Sm. gloves
I can’t wait until we don’t have bootcamp homework anymore. Not to say that it’s not interesting, because it is, but I hate going thorough the come-home-from-work-eat-homework-sleep cycle five times a week.
Andrew is a decent lecturer, imo. Very thorough, which I like. He drew us lots of pictures, too, which helped a lot even if it was just about microscopy in relation to the...

First Friday
Fridays are sweet. Everyone acknowledges that everyone else just wants to go home. :)
Genentech Hall knows how to kick off the weekend; There’s a cart of beer on each floor and a “contest” to see which floor can attract the most employees. They drink and they socialize during Happy Hour every Friday.
That’s all I learned today.
Just kidding.
Today’s Journal Club...
Who doesn't love ice cream cake?
We got free ice cream cake today in celebration of Raquel’s birthday! Ice cream on the job. It’s funny how having ice cream cake in the middle of a workday can become one of the highlights of today. Who knew work could be so… delicious. On a side note, I think I’m allergic to something at UCSF. I think it’s dust, but it’s not like I can stop breathing in order...
Twosday
Like my pun on the title? It’s day two and it’s Tuesday! Hahah- Okay. On with the blog.
Today, I jumped out of bed at 7:44 AM. (Holy crap, right?) I raced into the shower and out the door at 7:54 to catch the 8:00 N-Judah. Fortunately for me, I made it. The seven of us minus Allen, so six of us really, took the 8:20 shuttle to Mission Bay. Once again, it was nice and foggy, just...
First Day Operations
It was almost natural for me to wake up at 6:45 AM this morning. I had been accustomed to waking up at 6 for the past couple of days. The San Francisco morning was a grey as ever as I made the trek (my mom drove me, actually) to the Parnassus shuttle stop. “Edna, where are you?” I remember Eric asking her on his cell phone. It was near 8:00. The shuttle was about the leave. She was...
New Fish in the Pond
Today is our first day of iGEM. We are here at UCSF Mission Bay setting up blogs. Here’s to a great summer guys. We’re small, small fish in a big new pond.
This is the most normal picture we could take. Can you believe it?
