Like my pun on the title? It’s day two and it’s Tuesday! Hahah- Okay. On with the blog.
Today, I jumped out of bed at 7:44 AM. (Holy crap, right?) I raced into the shower and out the door at 7:54 to catch the 8:00 N-Judah. Fortunately for me, I made it. The seven of us minus Allen, so six of us really, took the 8:20 shuttle to Mission Bay. Once again, it was nice and foggy, just what we native San Franciscans expect. A rice krispie bar with Snap, Crackle and Pop on the wrapper did the trick to wake me up during the 5 min. break after David’s Journal Club discussion on the GFP paper.
Arthur’s question of the day was “What is your favorite game?” I answered Mafia. :) We should totally have David’s triathalon of Taboo-Mafia-Rivers, Towns and Countries. Hahah.
Green Team rules! We won the tie-breaker for Arthur’s actin board game. Oh rules and rhetoric, why must you trick us so? We know from Arthur’s lecture on actin what the red fish (capping proteins) and black marshmallow (Arp2/3) represent now.
I liked Arthur’s presentation on actin, especially the math part involving rates of polymerization and depolymerization of actin. I’ve always found math in Biotech fun because it’s a puzzle at first, but it’s still simple enough for anyone to solve. Math is only a tool to understand the theory behind the actual science, a concept I think is both useful for learning and cool because the math is usually very intuitive in biotech.
There’s an scientific article to read the right way and a worksheet to complete for Journal Club, so blog2u later!
